Lake Garda

Lake Garda (or Benaco) is the largest of the Italian lakes, with a surface area of 370 square kilometers, and it is shared by three regions: Lombardy (province of Brescia), Veneto (province of Verona) and Trentino Alto Adige (province of Trento).
Long, narrow and with high, steep banks in the north, the Lake becomes wider and rounded in the south where it is surrounded by an amphitheater of morainic hills, which makes the landscape more gentle.
The climate is mild and sub-Mediterranean and the vegetation includes citrus trees, olive trees, vines, agave and bougainvillea.

There are five islands in the Lake: “Isola del Garda” and “Isola dei Conigli” (Rabbits Island) are close to the western shore of Brescia, while “Isola degli Olivi” (Olives Island),“Isola del Sogno” (Island of Dreams) and Isola di Trimelone” (Trimelone Island) are located near Malcesine on the Veronese side.
Ferries and hydrofoils connect all the lakeside towns, moreover, a ferry service is also available between Maderno and Torri. Private motor powered craft are forbidden on the Trentino side, but are allowed in all other areas of the Lake.
The attractions of Lake Garda are many and varied: its history and culture, its picturesque old towns, spa, amusement parks, the food and wine tours, hiking and cycling and water sports.
